Shared Commitment
At Artek Energy, we hold all levels of management accountable for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. This is achieved through comprehensive training and adherence to legislation and regulations governing the regions in which we operate. This includes but is not limited to compliance with Human Resources and Employment, Occupational Health and Safety, Federal and Provincial Energy and Utility Regulators, and the Environmental Protection and Enhancements Acts.
At Artek Energy, we emphasize the responsibility of all levels of management and ensure that Managers, Supervisors, Employees, and Contractors comply with relevant health and safety legislation, industry best practices, environmental protection plans, and standard operating procedures. Artek employees are required to conduct any work activities with the highest regard for the safety of themselves, those around them and the environment.
SAFETY PROGRAM
The Artek Energy Safety Management System was created to empower our workforce to proactively recognize hazards, assess risks and quickly identify unsafe conditions within our operations. Our primary aim is to equip our team with the necessary tools, knowledge, and expertise to ensure their safety on a daily basis.
To identify hazards proactively Artek Energy uses several steps:
- At the beginning of a project, the management team will complete a Pre-Job Hazard Assessment before work begins. This is a high level first step in identifying hazards and effectively eliminating or mitigating them.
- At the start of each shift, crews conduct tailgate meeting with all personnel on site. This includes contractors and sub-contractors. Each team members first opportunity of the day is to discuss the hazards and challenges and find solutions to control them as a team.
- Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) are the next step our crews conduct before work begins. At this point the crews can discuss the task-specific hazards that they will face and identify controls. This is documented on the FLHA forms which are completed for all tasks performed throughout the day. The FLHA is updated and reviewed through the day and when new workers or visitors enter their work area.
- Once work has begun hazard identification cards and Behavioural Based Observations are utilized to identify hazards, at risk behaviours and to promote safe work practices. In doing so, Artek Energy can communicate the hazards and recognize the safe and at risk behaviours.
Artek Energy is committed to continuous improvement and providing our workforce with the requirements to improve their skills and knowledge. Each day of work gives us the opportunity to learn and grow as a company – we investigate incidents of all severity, implement corrective actions and apply the lessons learned to be stronger in our endeavours. We conduct and participate in safety audits and review our safety performance with our employees to share the lessons learned at all levels of the organization.
